คือ อะไร ตอบ Gerund Phrase คือ กลุ่มคำที่เกิดจากการเติม – ing หลังคำกริยา และทำหน้าที่เหมือนคำนาม ได้แก่ เป็นประธาน กรรม หรือส่วนเสริม ถ้า gerund phrase ทำหน้าที่เป็นกรรม จะต้องตามหลังคำกริยาบางตัวเท่านั้น
1 รูป V-ing เมื่อวางหน้ากลุ่มคำเป็นคำสำคัญ มีความหมายว่า ‘ การ ‘ หรือ ‘ ความ ‘
2 หน้าที่
1) ประธานเอกพจน์บุรุษที่ 3
Eating healthily can save expense on medical treatment.
( การกินเพื่อสุขภาพช่วยประหยัดค่ารักษาพยาบาล)
Driving carefully gets you to your destination safe and sound.
( การขับรถด้วยความระมัดระวังช่วยนำคุณไปถึงจุดหมายได้อย่างปลอดภัย)
Living a simple life without competition can bring you peace of mind.
( การใช้ชีวิตเรียบง่ายปราศจากการแข่งขันสามารถทำให้คุณมีจิตใจสงบได้)
2) กรรมของประโยค
I like eating healthily. ( ฉันชอบการกินเพื่อสุขภาพ)
Please seriously consider driving carefully to avoid accidents .
( กรุณาใช้ความระมัดระวังในการขับรถเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงอุบัติเหตุ)

แต่ remember, forget และ stop ถ้าตามด้วย infinitive ความหมายจะต่างจากเมื่อตามด้วย gerund

I forgot buying a bottle of milk. ( ฉันลืมไปว่า ซื้อนมไว้แล้ว)
Tom stopped to smoke . ( ทอมหยุดเพื่อหันมาสูบบุหรี่)
Tom stopped smoking. ( ทอมเลิกสูบบุหรี่)
My friend tried to sing to calm herself down.
( เพื่อนของฉันพยายามที่จะร้องเพลงเพื่อให้ใจเย็น)
My friend tried singing to calm herself down.
( เพื่อนของฉันลองร้องเพลงเพื่อให้ใจเย็น)
