Interjection คือ คําอุทาน เชน ดีใจ โกรธ ตกใจ ประหลาดใจ เปนตน คําอุทานที่แสดงความรูสึก เหลานี้มักตามดวยเครื่องหมายอัศเจรีย ( ! )
คําอุทานในภาษาอังกฤษแบงเปน 2 ชนิด คือ
- ชนิดที่เปนประโยค
- ชนิดที่เปนคําคําเดียว หรือ วลี
- คําอุทานชนิดที่เปนคําคําเดียวหรือวลีไดแก
1.1 แสดงความดีใจ พอใจ สนุกสนาน – Hooray ! Yippy ! Bravo !
แสดงความประหลาดใจ – Wow ! Oh ! Indeed ! Gee !
1.2 แสดงความเศราใจ ผิดหวัง – Alas ! Ah ! Nonsense !
1.3 แสดงความโกรธ ไมพอใจ – Damn ! Damn it ! Darn it !
1.4 แสดงความตกใจ – Gosh ! Oh dear ! Good grief !
1.5 แสดงความรังเกียจ – Yack ! Ugh !
1.6 แสดงอาการเหยียดหยาม – Hiss ! Boo !
1.7 แสดงความเจ็บปวด – Ouch ! Ow !
1.8 พบสิ่งที่ไมคาดหวัง – Ooops ! My !
1.9 อื่น ๆ – Oh boy !
– Hands off !
